Black Widow 36, Major Richard Green, was the 2nd flight platoon leader with C/101 in 1968-69. Richard came on board in 1992 to help Bob Crow locate former Black Widow veterans. In 1998 Richard volunteered to put our newsletter together, along with the duties of newsletter editor and the treasurer. Newsletters go out in March and October. Dues are $5.00 a year. If any of you guys are wondering why you haven’t received your newsletter, it’s because you have failed to mail in your dues to Richard Green.
We are always in need of stories from you guys who were there. We also need copies of your awards or promotion orders, which list other names, to help us locate other Black Widows that we don’t know about. Richard can be reached at 386-752-6950 or by email: signalocsbw36@comcast.net Send dues, letters to the editor and stories for the newsletter to Richard Green at 190 SW Wren Court, Lake City, Florida 32025.
David “Doc: Headley served with C/101 from 1970 through 1972. Richard Green sends the finished newsletter to Doc, who then prints the newsletters and sends them to Dick and Karma Detra, who staple them together, add the mailing labels, stamps and then mail them out to those who are up to date on their annual dues.
The historian for the 188th AHC, Dick “Cherry Boy” Detra, served with the 188th from June 1967 through June 1968. He earned his wings by way of OJT (On the Job Training) while flying as a door gunner in the 2nd flight platoon and in the Spiders gun platoon. Over a period of 16 years Dick has put together a twenty volume documented historical archive with photos of the 188th, along with a book: 188th Black Widow Aviation. He welcomes any memorabilia from former 188th or C/101 veterans to add to this archive. To complete the unauthorized pocket patch collection Dick needs three 188th Black Widow pocket patches with 1st platoon, 2nd platoon or the Spiders embroidered at the bottom of the patch and is willing to pay a fair price for these patches in order to complete this collection. Dick can be reached at 415-725-1612 or by e-mail: gunsup68@yahoo.com His mailing address is 202 Visitacion Ave., Apartment 3, Brisbane, California 94005-1576.
